For the first time, Walmart is selling Apple laptops directly, with the MacBook Air (with an M1 chip) available at a cool $700.
The computers are now available online and will soon arrive on shelves at select stores, Walmart said in a press release.
“We’re working hard to bring premium brands to our physical and virtual shelves,” Walmart’s executive vice president of merchandising, Julie Barber, said in a statement, “and we’re excited to work with Apple to do just that.”
Apple introduced brand-new laptops earlier this month without a launch event, including a new MacBook Air with an M3 chip, starting at $1,100.
As a result, Apple discontinued its M1 MacBook Air — the one arriving at Walmart. It also cut the price of its MacBook Air with an M2 chip, which now starts at $1,000 for a 13-inch screen.
Walmart has previously sold Apple products — including iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches — but never Macs. That said, Walmart shoppers have previously been able to purchase the laptops online via its third-party marketplace.
