La Liga president Javier Tebas confirmed Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid this summer and also revealed details of his contract length during a short talk with Argentine sports newspaper Ole.
Last week, Mbappe finally confirmed that he will leave Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires there on June 30.
The Frenchman hasn’t named his future destination, though this is widely expected to be Real Madrid.
On Monday, amid being presented with the Ligue 1 Player of the Season award, he hinted at this by saying his next step will be “super exciting”.
“Now I’m turning a page in my life. Everything that’s coming now is super exciting, but that’s another topic,” were Mbappe’s exact words.
“Thank you all, I’m going to miss you. I have always tried to live up to it and I also want to thank my family who have always been with me in good times and bad. My father, who is here, I know that it was very important for him that I made history in Ligue 1 before I left and I think that with humility I have done everything you wanted,” he added.
When preparing to speak at the Sportel sports broadcasting event in Argentina on Tuesday, however, Tebas confirmed the move in a curt interview with Ole.
Asked if Mbappe joining his championship a boost, Tebas said that the 25-year-old will be a Madrid next season.
“He is one of the best players in the world. But hey, there are also Vinicius and Bellingham. Madrid are going to have a great squad. Of course, that doesn’t guarantee winning championships,” Tebas added.
Be that as it may, it goes without saying that Mbappe’s chances of finally lifting the Champions League will be increased at the Bernabeu given that Los Blancos are the record winners of the competition and are closing in on an unprecedented 15th crown providing they can beat Borussia Dortmund in a Wembley final on June 1.
“Man, if you’ve been signed to a five-year contract, you’ve got five seasons of opportunity,” Tebas pointed out, in turn confirming how many years Mbappe appears to have committed to Madrid for.
As for the final, Tebas quipped that an epic spiring is “something that you could say is within Real Madrid” because it “happens season after season”.
“Sometimes it doesn’t get it all. But most of the time it wins. This marks the validity of La Liga, doesn’t it?,” Tebas pondered.
