FC Barcelona loanee Joao Felix told DAZN Espana that he expects to encounter a ‘spicy’ game at the Metropolitano against parent club Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
The Portuguese winger joined the Catalans from Atleti on transfer deadline day in the summer window, and left the Spanish capital unpopular with the Rojiblancos’ fervent supporters amid rumours of a falling out with their head coach Diego Simeone.
Because of these factors, after having scored the only goal of the game when Barca beat Atletico 1-0 at the Montjuic Stadium in December, Felix expects a frosty reception on Sunday when the two outfits meet in the late night partidazo in La Liga.
“I’m sure it’s going to be a very difficult environment for the whole team. Of course it’s going to be a little worse against me, but I’m a football player, I have to be used to this kind of thing,” he explained to DAZN Espana before the weekend.
“Of course I’m never going to lose focus on football, on the team, because I think that’s the most important thing,” Felix added.
“All of this motivates me more. I like these important matches, the matches that are spicy. I like that, it gives me extra motivation. It’s going to be a very good game,” Felix predicted.
While this match will be the two Spanish giants’ last league meeting this term, they could clash once more in the Champions League last four if Barca beats Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid gets past Borussia Dortmund.
Felix is aiming to go all the way on the continent with Barca – for what would be the Blaugrana’s first time doing so since 2015 under PSG boss Luis Enrique – and is therefore not going to get caught up in pondering whether or not they will make his loan move permanent.
“I’m not thinking about my future now. I’m focused. We still have the league, we have the Champions League – we have a good opportunity to make history,” Felix stressed.
“And for now I’m focused here and I don’t think about what’s going to happen, because it all depends on how it goes until the end [of the season],” concluded the 24-year-old.
