The Machines Arena, an Overwatch-style hero shooter viewed from an overhead perspective, is launching a play-to-airdrop campaign leading up to the debut of its TMA token on Ethereum scaling network Ronin.
Starting July 30, players will be able to earn points through activities such as completing quests and leveling up. The amount of points you earn ranks you on the play-to-airdrop (P2A) leaderboard, which will decide the amount of TMA tokens you receive.
The event will end right before the token generation event (TGE), the action that will launch TMA onto the Ronin network. According to a blog post, the event is slated to last eight weeks, but the developer states that it could “end sooner.”

Playing games, completing quests, and leveling up will all give you points, so continuing to play the game as usual will still rank you somewhere on the leaderboard. Owning and holding tokenized in-game assets will also grant you points, but if you don’t purchase the “VIP membership,” then this will all be in vain.
That’s because a VIP membership is required to rank on the leaderboard and participate in the play-to-airdrop campaign. In other words, you’ll need some skin in the game to earn towards the airdrop. But by purchasing the membership, you’ll also unlock new ways to earn points.
For example, depending on the tier of VIP pass you purchase—there are four tiers in total, with varying price points and perks—you will automatically be granted an amount of tokens each day. At the lowest tier, players will be given a consistent 100 points per day; but at the highest tier, you’ll be granted 1,200 points daily.
“One major use of VIP membership is to protect players from bots,” a blog post notes. “Since the points players earn will eventually turn into TMA, it is crucial to protect them against those who exploit the system.”
VIP memberships are available for as cheap as $10, while the fourth-tier membership is $100. Each membership will last four weeks, and players do not need to renew them to remain placed on the leaderboard—although they will not be able to continue earning VIP point bonuses.
The more milestones that the community achieves, the developer said, the more tokens that will be unlocked during the campaign. If all of these milestones are achieved before the full eight-week period concludes, then the event will end early. In the case that all of the milestones are achieved, 70 million TMA tokens will be airdropped, accounting for 7% of the total supply.
