Blackpink is looking ahead to their next era as a band, while at the same time, the members are all busying themselves with solo careers that are very much on the rise. As the future looks bright for the quartet, fans haven’t stopped listening to some of their biggest hits, which is evident from the bit of history they just made.
“How You Like That” by Blackpink has officially reached one billion plays on Spotify. It’s the first single from the four-member vocal group that hit that milestone, but this accomplishment is special for more than just the band.
According to Billboard, Blackpink is now the first South Korean girl group to see one of their songs rack up one billion plays on Spotify. They aren’t the first South Korean artists to make it into what’s known as the Billions Club–BTS has done so–but among all-female acts, they just shattered another glass ceiling.
“How You Like That” was released in June 2020. It served as the first taste of the girl group’s then-forthcoming debut album, the aptly-titled The Album. It was a quick and important hit for the foursome, as it peaked at No. 33 on the Hot 100, giving them one of their first lofty placements on the ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S.
Blackpink hasn’t released new music since last August. They delivered the one-off single “The Girls” as a way to entice fans to download and play their mobile game Blackpink: The Game. Their latest full-length, Born Pink, arrived in September 2022.
For the past several years, in addition to their work with Blackpink, all four members of the band have also been pursuing solo projects. Jisoo, Rosé, Lisa, and Jennie have all released music on their own, finding various levels of success on the Billboard charts. They have all also explored other creative and business ventures, including acting, modeling, and launching record labels, management companies, and more.
