The New York Stock Exchange opens every workday morning at 9:30 am ET with the fast-paced bang-clang of a gleaming brass bell. The stock exchange, the largest in the world by market capitalization, has opened with sonic fanfare for more than 150 years. The sound, so iconic it is trademarked, reverberates across the trading floor again just before 4 pm ET, when the stock market closes. Once a hubbub of screaming floor brokers and countless sheets of paper strewn on the ground, much of the trading is now electronic in NYSE’s hybrid market. The mayhem has largely died down. From…
Dow Jones follows other indices lower on Friday. UoM Consumer Sentiment Index ticked lower. June rate cut bets have edged down to 60%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) is down around half a percent as markets round the corner into the Friday closing bell with US equities broadly lower on the day. An extended pullback in the tech and telecoms sectors are dragging down the averages, with limited gains to keep the Dow Jones on-balance as markets buckle down for the weekend. According to the CME’s FedWatch Tool, rate futures are pricing in nearly a 41% chance of no rate…
Every weekday, the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer releases the Homestretch — an actionable afternoon update, just in time for the last hour of trading on Wall Street. (We’re no longer recording the audio, so we can get this new written feature to members as quickly as possible.) Market reversal : The stock market on Thursday initially shrugged off the before-the-bell release of a stronger-than-expected increase in February producer prices. Stocks gained ground, as investors appeared to be willing to again look past an elevated inflation number and a rise in bond yields like they did following Tuesday’s uptick…

There are several tactics you can employ to impress a prospective employer during a job interview.Tell your interviewer what excites you about the role, for example. This shows you’re a passionate person who is genuinely interested in the opportunity. Ask what problem you can solve for them on day one to start setting yourself up for success if you get hired. Nod and smile while the interviewer is speaking to show you’re confident and capable. There are, of course, a few behaviors you’ll want to avoid, such as phrases that could turn your interviewer off. Some are “major red flags,” says…
The rallies start with a recording of January 6 prisoners singing the national anthem. Campaign staff hand out pre-made “Too Big to Rig” signs to supporters. When the candidate takes the stage, he calls the rioters “people who love our country” and “hostages unfairly imprisoned for long periods of time.” There is nothing subtle about how central Donald Trump has made January 6, 2021, to his campaign. More than just continuing to feed denialism and conspiracies about the 2020 election, he is constantly distorting the reality of what happened that day, preaching vindication to his base of voters. In ways big…
Since Wednesday, the Big East has sold out its men’s basketball tournament games at Madison Square Garden. That is not unusual. The event has routinely had sellouts since it came to MSG in 1983, and that will likely continue for at least several more years. Before Friday night’s semifinals, the Big East announced that it had struck a deal with MSG to hold the tournament at the venue through 2032, which will be the 50th anniversary of the event at the Garden. The previous contract was set to expire in 2028. Joel Fisher, MSG’s executive vice president of marquee events…
Key News Asian equities were largely higher except for South Korea, Mainland China, and Hong Kong. Macro/top-down and micro/bottom-up factors weighed on the markets, though one could also argue they were due for a breather after a strong run from January lows. The “Two Sessions” policy meetings have provided verbal policy support for the economy, though markets will want to see exact measures to be enacted. I jinxed things yesterday by mentioning the resiliency of the Chinese markets despite a very negative Western media narrative. The House’s TikTok ban vote weighed on investor sentiment as recent growth stock/sector outperformers underperformed.…
Over a week ago Emmanuel Macron’s team attempted to show how ‘close’ he is to the people and the ‘terre’ by arranging a set piece meeting with up to thirty farmer’s groups at the Salon de l’Agriculture. However, there were two problems. Only a couple of those groups turned up, and another protest group stormed the pavilion where Macron was holding forth, leading to an enormous scrummage with riot police. In the context of a country where to paraphrase Charles de Gaulle, it is near impossible to govern any country that produces 258 cheeses, there is an important link between…
