CM Punk screwed Drew McIntyre at WWE Money In the Bank 2024, costing him a Money in the Bank cash-in. McIntyre became just the sixth WWE Superstar with a failed Money in the Bank cash-in in history.

CM Punk and Drew McIntyre have been embroiled in a blood feud since WWE Royal Rumble 2024. The IRL timeline of the feud dates back even further as McIntyre infamously stormed out of WWE Survivor Series on the night of CM Punk’s return. The feud has evolved into some of the most realistic storyline hatred that WWE has ever produced. In fact, McIntyre vs. Punk has the same vibes as Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels from 1997.

McIntyre’s frustrations were believed to be centered around Punk allegedly taking his spot upon returning to WWE, meaning McIntyre would go yet another WrestleMania without his moment. Due to an unprecedented series of events—including CM Punk’s injury at the Royal Rumble and fans insisting on Cody Rhodes main eventing WrestleMania 40—McIntyre found himself embroiled in both a red-hot feud with Punk in addition to a world championship match against Seth Rollins.

McIntyre was victorious over Rollins at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia, but what followed became a theme of McIntyre and Punk’s art-imitating-life feud as Punk screwed Drew out of his moment. This led to a successful Money in the Bank cash-in by Damian Priest.

Punk’s cat-and-mouse game with Drew McIntyre saw the Chicago native get the better of McIntyre at every turn. Punk was so successful counter-trolling Drew, it compelled the former Scottish WWE world heavyweight champion to outright quit. This proved to be a rouse as McIntyre returned that week on SmackDown in CM Punk’s hometown of Chicago to destroy Punk in front of his most loyal fans in the Allstate Arena.

With McIntyre back in control of the main event picture of WWE, the top star qualified for the men’s Money in the Bank match via a Triple Threat victory over Sheamus and Ilja Dragunov. Of note, McIntyre vowed not only to win Money in the Bank, but to cash-in and become world champion that night.

McIntyre made good on his claim to win Money in the Bank—which he did to kick off the heated show in Toronto. As many suspected, CM Punk interrupted McIntyre’s big moment, costing him the WWE World Championship in a Money in the Bank situation for a second time since WrestleMania.

Of note, Seth Rollins was furious with Punk’s shenanigans, which also cost Rollins a world title match. As Punk’s latest actions have now reignited his tensions with Rollins, WWE’s signature intertwining, cinematic storytelling continues.
