The third season of FX’s Emmy-winning series, The Bear, premieres tomorrow on Hulu. With the new season, many fans are rooting for a romantic relationship between Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) and Sydney Adamu (Ayo Edebiri). The show’s lead stars recently addressed whether their characters will cross that line this season.

The chefs met in Season 1 when Sydney joined The Original Beef of Chicagoland (aka The Beef) as a sous-chef. She was excited to learn from Carmy, an established chef who had worked at Eleven Madison Park, The French Laundry, and Noma, all three of which had three Michelin stars. They bonded over their passion for cooking, and although their flaws caused tension (like when Sydney briefly left The Beef), they resolved their issues and came back stronger in Season 2.

The second season focused on Carmy and Sydney’s growing friendship as they worked to transform the restaurant into an elevated dining establishment. The pair spent a lot of time together researching, planning, and executing their vision and menu for The Bear, and there were brief awkward moments that hinted at potential romantic feelings.

In Season 2, The Bear introduced a love interest for Carmy — his childhood friend Claire (Molly Gordon) — but their relationship was in trouble by the end of the season. Carmy had trapped himself in the walk-in fridge, and when Claire went to check on him, she overheard him saying that he had been distracted and didn’t feel the need to be in a relationship. He also expressed being okay with being miserable because “no amount of good is worth how terrible this feels.”

Carmy and Claire’s breakup in Season 2 leaves an opportunity for Carmy to pursue something with Sydney, but fans may have to wait longer — or possibly never see the characters progress beyond friendship. Here’s what to know.

Will Carmy And Sydney Get Together in The Bear Season 3?

Unfortunately, Carmy and Sydney are not expected to get together in season three of “The Bear.” In fact, White and Edebiri swiftly shut down any romantic rumors between their characters ahead of the Season 3 premiere.

When asked at The Bear’s Season 3 press conference on June 24 whether The Bear had considered writing a romance between their characters, White and Edebiri answered with “No.” White added, “There was no talk in the rooms about any romantic implications [between Carmy and Sydney].”

While a love story between Carmy and Sydney might not be in the cards, Edebiri and White explored how their characters’ dynamics would shift professionally when I asked about Sydney’s new partnership agreement, as highlighted in the Season 3 trailer.

“Carmy is somebody that I think she’s really looked up to, but now is sort of in the thick of doing business with, and it’s, I think, a lot more chaotic than she might have idealized before they really started working together,” the 28-year-old actress explained.

Meanwhile, White added that his character is “not the best communicator, but he will often make a sort of grand gesture like that to try and communicate to Syd or the kitchen or whomever.”

The Iron Claw star continued, “He’s got a lot going on in his mind all the time, and people aren’t always aware of exactly what’s going on. You’ll see, obviously, how that affects Carmen and Syd’s relationship, but I think Carmen’s trying to welcome her in a little bit was the point of the partnership agreement.”

Will Sydney And Marcus Get Together in The Bear Season 3?

Edebiri also didn’t provide details on a potential romance between Sydney and Marcus Brooks (Lionel Boyce). In the second-to-last episode of Season 2, Marcus casually asked Sydney out, but she awkwardly declined, leaving viewers wondering what could happen in Season 3.

“No, probably not,” Edebiri replied when asked if she could say anything about their relationship this season. “You’ll have to watch.”

Season 3 of The Bear will premiere on June 26 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on Hulu and Disney+. All 10 episodes will be released at once. Watch the official trailer for the upcoming season below.
