Kevin Costner’s Western Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 is new in theaters, but when will it be on streaming?

Horizon is the first of an ambitious four-part film series that debuted in theaters on Friday. The movie—which chronicles the expansion of the American West before and after the Civil War—is directed by and stars Costner.

According to Variety, the former Yellowstone star partially financed Horizon by investing $38 million of his own money in the movie’s $100 million production budget before prints and advertising.

The Hollywood trade publication noted that the rest of the film was funded by two unnamed investors. Variety also reported that Costner and company are responsible for the film’s $30 million P&A spend.

Since Warner Bros. is distributing Horizon, the film’s first subscription streaming destination will be the studio’s Max platform.

The streaming date for Horizon has not yet to be announced, so the only way to see the film at the moment is in theaters.

Judging the 90-plus day window between the release of Warner Bros. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in theaters (March 29) and its Max date (July 4), viewers shouldn’t expect to begin streaming Horizon on Max until the end of September.

‘Horizon’ Will Premiere On Digital Streaming First

Like most of Warner Bros.’ major titles, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 will premiere on premium video on demand on digital streaming before it’s available on Max.

That means Horizon should make its home debut on digital streaming and likely will be priced anywhere from $24.99 to $29.99 to purchase and $19.99 to $24.99 to rent. Generally, films are available on PVOD on such platforms as Prime Video, AppleTV+ and VUDU.

The date Horizon premieres on PVOD has not yet been announced, but generally Warner Bros. has a 45-day window between its films’ theatrical and digital streaming releases. So, if you use Warner Bros.’ Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire once again as an example, it took about 45 days for blockbuster hit to debut on PVOD after it was released in theaters.

Warner Bros.’ 45-day theatrical to PVOD window isn’t set in stone, however. The studio’s big-budget misfire Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga debuted in theaters on May 25 and debuted on PVOD just over a month later, on June 25.

Whether the first chapter of Costner’s Western epic debuts on PVOD 30 days or 45 days after its release on Friday, it should be available to purchase or rent and watch at home just ahead of the release of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2, which is scheduled to hit theaters on August 16.
