Looking for Tuesday’s Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here:

It’s May Day! May 1st! Happy May, dearest Wordlers!

May Day, celebrated on May 1st, has two distinct significances depending on the context in which it is celebrated:

  1. International Workers’ Day: This is perhaps the more globally recognized aspect of May Day, which is a celebration of laborers and the working classes. Originating from the labor union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest, May Day is an occasion for promoting workers’ rights and international solidarity among workers. It’s marked by rallies, parades, and speeches in many countries around the world.
  2. Traditional Spring Festival: May Day is also an ancient Northern Hemisphere spring festival and a traditional spring holiday in many cultures. Festivities typically include dancing around the maypole, crowning a May Queen, and various customs that celebrate the coming of spring and the fertility of the land and livestock. These traditions can include floral garlands, singing, and cake sharing.

And there’s really nothing better than sharing cake.

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

Not too shabby today, though I wish I’d been able to wrap this up in three. SPORE was actually a pretty good opener, leaving me with just 41 possible solutions and one green box. My second guess is what messed everything up. CHURN didn’t get me any more letters, and I probably should have guessed a word without the letter ‘R’ at this point.

DWARF cut the remaining 11 words down to just one: DIARY for the win. Huzzah!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get no points for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the Bot, who guessed in just three. Lame!

How To Play Competitive Wordle

Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.

If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “diary” comes from the Latin word “diarium,” which means “daily allowance” or “daily journal.” This Latin term is derived from “dies,” which means “day.” The concept of a diary as a daily record of personal experiences and observations developed from this original meaning. The transition to the modern sense of a personal journal, where one records daily events and personal reflections, evolved over time.
