The UFC opened the door at UFC 300, increasing the fight-night bonus awards from $50,000 each to $300,000 each for that event. With UFC Vegas 91 taking place this Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, UFC veteran Tim Means, who faces Uros Medic in a welterweight scrap on the main card of the event, feels the UFC should stick with $300,000 when it comes to awarding fight-night bonuses.

“I hope you all keep the same energy and show up with $300,000 bonuses,” Means said during UFC Vegas 91 media day on Wednesday. “Don’t mess around. Let’s talk about it. Let’s at least sit down in a room when we do the rules meeting on Saturday night, and let’s have a discussion.

“You can’t go back, you know? It’s not bragging if you back it up. For real, what are we doing? We’re just talking about it here. Keep it the same, same energy.

You want to see some fun fights in the Apex? Guys always show up to throw hooks. These shows are usually funner than most pay-per-views.”

Means is 33-15-1-1 in his UFC career. The 40-year-old American is coming off a September TKO win over Andre Fialho. The two fighters were awarded “Fight of the Night” honors for that bout. The win gave Means his first post-fight bonus since he knocked out John Howard in December 2015. Means, who has been with the UFC since May 2014, has won three UFC fight-night bonuses during his lengthy career.

Medic is 9-2 as a pro. The 30-year-old is coming off a November submission loss to Myktybek Orolbai.

The main event of UFC Vegas 91 features a flyweight matchup between Matheus Nicolau and Alex Perez in a noteworthy flyweight matchup. Nicolau comes into Saturday’s scrap as the No. 5 fighter in the official UFC flyweight rankings, while Perez checks in as the No. 8 fighter in the UFC’s 125-pound division.

Matheus Nicolau (19-3-1) saw his six-fight winning streak end in his most recent outing. That loss came in April 2023 when former UFC lightweight title challenger Brandon Royval scored a KO win over him at 2:09 of Round 1.

Alex Perez (24-8) also heads into UFC Vegas 91 with a loss in his most recent scrap. Unlike his opponent, Perez comes into his matchup opposite Nicolau on a losing skid. Perez has losses in his past three outings, most recently losing to Muhammad Mokaev in March of this year. Perez fought for the UFC flyweight title in November 2020, losing by submission to Deiveson Figueiredo. The ex-title challenger replaced Manel Kape on this card in early April.
