Marvel’s Thunderbolts* is projected to drop 53% in business in its second weekend but will easily fend off four newcomers in theaters.

The latest chapter in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe debuted at No. 1 a week ago with $74.3 million domestically in its opening three-day frame. Coming into its second weekend, Thunderbolts* is projected by Deadline to have a 53% drop in ticket sales at the North American box office, which amounts to a $35 million take through Sunday.

The $35 million weekend estimate for Thunderbolts* falls on the lower end of the frame of Box Office Pro’s forecast for the film released on Wednesday, when the analysts projected a $34 million to $40 million domestic take through Sunday. Should Deadline’s projection hold, it will boost the running domestic take of Thunderbolts* to $130.3 million.

Thunderbolts* remains in 4,330 North American theaters. Thunderbolts* is facing off against four newcomers this weekend — RLJE/Shudder’s Clown in a Cornfield, Lionsgate’s Shadow Force, Vertical Entertainment’s Fight or Flight and Briarcliff Entertainment’s Juliet & Romeo — but none of the titles are seen as a serious threat to taking away the MCU antihero action adventure’s box office crown.

‘Clown In A Cornfield’ Is Projected To Be The Only New Film To Make The Top 5

Ryan Coogler’s latest big-screen collaboration with Michael B. Jordan — the vampire thriller Sinners — is projected by Deadline to keep its No. 2 spot at the weekend box office with a $20 million haul from 3,502 theaters. If the estimate for the Warner Bros. venerable hit holds, it will bring Sinners’ domestic take to $213.3 million.

The trade publication also projects the Jack Black and Jason Momoa video game adaptation A Minecraft Movie — even though it’s fast approaching a digital streaming release — to earn $7 million from 3,468 theaters to boost the Warner Bros. blockbuster’s tally to $408 million.

Meanwhile, Amazon MGM Studio’s crime drama The Accountant 2 is projected by Deadline to make $5.8 million from 3,402 theaters this weekend, to up its domestic tally to $50.6 million.

The only movie from the crop of newcomers projected by Deadline to place in the top five at the domestic box office is director Eli Craig’s horror comedy Clown in a Cornfield, which is expected to earn $3 million from 2,277 theaters.

The trade publication also projects that the action thriller Shadow Force — starring Kerry Washington and Omar Sy — will make anywhere from $1.7 million to $2.7 million from 2,170 venues for a No. 6 debut; while the Josh Hartnett action adventure Fight or Flight is projected to earn $2 million from 2,153 North American theaters.
