Enjoy Windows 11 23H2 update on your PC even if its configuration is not officially supported by Microsoft.
A few days ago, Microsoft officially deployed Windows 11 update 23H2 to all eligible PCs. On all machines with a hardware configuration meeting the specifications imposed by Microsoft, the update is automatically offered. To obtain it, simply go to the Settings of the operating system, then go to Windows Update to check the availability of the update, download it, and apply it.
For users who may have tweaked the Windows 11 installation to work on their PC with an unsupported configuration, that’s a different story. Microsoft automatically detects ineligible machines, and obviously does not offer the update via Windows Update. And even by manually downloading the Windows 11 23H2 ISO, installing the update is impossible. The program’s installation wizard automatically analyzes the hardware configuration to verify the eligibility of the PC.
However, installing the 23H2 update on an officially non-compatible PC is easily circumvented. To do this, you will only need the Windows 11 23H2 disk image in ISO format, a USB key, and Rufus. Here are the steps to follow.
1. Download Windows 11 23H2 disk image
Open your favorite browser, and go to the Windows 11 23H2 ISO disk image download page. Under the title Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO)click on the drop-down menu Download selectionand choose Windows 11 (multi-edition ISO). Then click on the button Download.
To be able to install Windows 11 update 23H2 on your PC, you will need to create an installation USB key using the excellent Rufus which you can download on this page.
This free utility has been updated several times to allow you to create Windows installation USB keys by bypassing Microsoft restrictions. The utility is therefore very useful if you are looking to install Windows 11 without a Microsoft account, or if you are looking for a simple and effective way to install Windows 11 on a non-compatible PC.
3. Create a Windows 11 23H2 installation USB drive
Then connect your USB stick to your PC and now open Rufus. Logically, the utility should automatically detect your USB drive and select it from the drop-down menu displayed under the heading Peripheral. Then click on the button Selectionthen choose the Windows 11 23H2 ISO format disk image that you downloaded earlier.
Keep all other settings selected as default, then click the button To start up. A pop-up should automatically open. These are the different possible options for bypassing Microsoft’s restrictions. Keep all settings selected as default, and click the button OK.
Rufus should then initiate the process of creating the Windows 11 installation USB key. Wait the time necessary for the utility to complete its work. When the procedure is completed, Rufus will normally display a message indicating that your installation USB key is ready. Close Rufus, and keep the USB key connected to your PC.
Now open Windows File Explorer and then enter the Windows 11 installation USB drive you just created. Now double click on the file setup to open it and launch the Windows 11 23H2 installation wizard. Note that here we will install Windows 11H23 directly from Windows 11 22H2, without needing to boot the PC on the USB key that we have just created.
In the Install Windows 11 window, click the button Following. The installation wizard will then check for the availability of updates, but will very quickly skip the hardware check to display the Windows 11 license agreement. Then click on Accept.
Then wait a few moments. The installation wizard will then check that your PC has enough space to install the update before displaying a window Ready for installation. Then click on the button Install to start installing Windows 11 23H2 on your PC.
A blue Windows 11 installation in progress screen should then appear on the screen. Wait for the OS installation to complete. During the procedure, your computer will restart several times.
On the last reboot, your PC should display a Hello window, similar to the one you see the first time you set up your PC. Wait a few minutes again for the OS to finalize the installation of the update.
You should then arrive, as usual, on your Windows desktop. You can very easily check if your PC is running the latest Windows 11 update. To do this, open Settings using the keyboard shortcut Windows+ithen in Systemgo to the section System information.
