Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department has now spent a full year on the Official Albums chart in the United Kingdom, as of this week. That milestone might be a career peak for almost any other artist, but for Swift, it’s practically standard. The Grammy winner is so used to spending long stretches of time on the most competitive tallies, that this latest feat is actually fairly commonplace.
Even though The Tortured Poets Department isn’t dominating as many rankings as some of her past full-lengths managed to at the one-year mark, it continues to find space on a few tallies in the U.K. as it reaches its fifty-second frame on multiple rosters.
The Tortured Poets Department Hits Its First Year
The Tortured Poets Department hits 52 weeks on not just one, but two U.K.-based tallies. The set earns its fifty-second appearance on the Official Albums chart, the all-genre list of the 100 most consumed full-lengths in the country. At the same time, it also hits the special milestone on the Official Albums Streaming ranking, which focuses solely on plays from platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
On the streaming-only list, The Tortured Poets Department actually improves its standing, lifting from No. 24 to No. 21. Over on the main albums ranking, it holds steady at No. 24.
Taylor Swift is Used to Reaching This Milestone
The Tortured Poets Department becomes Swift’s twelfth title to spend at least 52 weeks on the Official Albums chart. The singer and her fans may be celebrating this latest accomplishment, but the Grammy-nominated set still has a long way to go before it matches her sturdiest success,
Her longest-charting effort remains 1989, which has become somewhat rare on the ranking these days. That’s because most fans have now switched to streaming 1989 (Taylor’s Version) instead. The original version of the blockbuster album managed a stunning 373 weeks somewhere on the chart before it began to phase out.
Only Five Taylor Swift Albums Have Missed the Mark
Out of the 17 full-length projects Swift has sent to the Official Albums chart, only five have failed to reach the one-year threshold. Her self-titled debut only lasted three frames, while Speak Now only just missed out on half a year.
A handful of recent releases have also struggled to maintain long-term traction in the U.K., though, for most of them, that performance isn’t surprising. Fearless (Taylor’s Version) came and disappeared after a few months, and live recordings like Lover (Live From Paris) and Folklore – The Long Pond Studio Sessions didn’t even crack double-digit stays.
