American Fiction, an Oscar-winning awards season juggernaut and top pick of film critics is coming to streaming on Prime Video.

The 2023 film, which won a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for screenwriter Cord Jefferson, makes its debut on the platform in mid-May.

Jefferson also directed the comedy satire, which follows Thelonious “Monk” Ellison (Jeffrey Wright), a Black author who is disenfranchised by his fellow authors’ perspectives when writing about representation and the African American experience. As such, Monk jokingly writes a novel similar to his counterparts under a pseudonym and becomes shocked when the book becomes a best-selling national sensation.

According to streaming tracker When to Stream, American Fiction will be released as a streaming video on demand title on Prime Video on May 14, meaning you can stream the movie for free provided you are an Amazon Prime member.

The film is currently available for digital rental on several online platforms including Prime Video and MGM+ as well as VUDU for $3.99 or purchase for $9.99. Viewers who don’t want to wait can stream the film now if you become a paid subscriber to Amazon subsidiary MGM+.
