Keith Richards is known first and foremost as the grizzled guitar legend of The Rolling Stones. Across six decades, he’s helped define the sound of rock and roll, contributing to one of the most successful bands of all time. But every once in a while, Richards steps out on his own, and this week, that move results in a rare solo hit in his native United Kingdom.

At 81 years old, the rock superstar lands back on the charts with his backing band, the X-Pensive Winos. Their latest collaborative release, Live 3.10.22, earns just enough commercial success to make an impression, giving Richards his first solo appearance on several U.K. rankings in years.

Keith Richards Returns to the Charts With a Solo Set

Live 3.10.22 debuts on two tallies in the U.K. this frame. The three-song EP opens at No. 42 on the Official Physical Singles chart, narrowly missing a meaningful top 40 placement. At the same time, it enters at No. 84 on the Official Singles Sales chart, landing in a much lower spot on the more competitive sales list. The stronger showing on the physical-only roster is due to the fact that it was only made available to buy in physical formats, while the title also has to compete with digital tunes and short efforts on the all-encompassing sales roster.

Keith Richards Adds to His Small List of Wins

Richards has now appeared on the Official Singles Sales chart just three times under his own name. That’s a surprisingly small number considering his legendary status, but perhaps not so unexpected given that he issues solo material relatively rarely. On the Official Physical Singles chart, this EP marks his fourth appearance.

While Live 3.10.22 is technically his lowest-charting solo effort so far, the fact that Richards is still earning placements decades into his career — and outside of The Rolling Stones — is notable in itself.

Live 3.10.22 Is a Limited Edition EP

Despite being reported by the Official Charts Company as a single, Live 3.10.22 is actually a short EP. The collection features three songs — “999,” “You Got the Silver,” and “Before They Make Me Run” — and was recorded live in 2022 at a benefit concert in New York City for Love Rocks NYC. Richards is joined by his longtime backing band, the X-Pensive Winos, a lineup he’s collaborated with for years.

The set was released as part of Record Store Day 2025 on red 12-inch vinyl, with only 1,300 copies made available to buy. That limited run helped fuel quick sales in the U.K., where physical media clearly played a big enough role to earn Richards another solo win, even as people continue to consume the Rolling Stones’ catalog in large numbers.
