Godzilla X Kong is the fifth film in Legendary Pictures’ Monsterverse and the sequel to 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong. The movie sees the Titans returning in an epic battle, where Godzilla and Kong must join forces to face a new threat: the Skar King, a massive beast resembling Kong that threatens their very survival. The film also delves deeper into the backgrounds of these iconic monsters, exploring the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond.
Adam Wingard returned to direct the sequel, while Terry Rossio penned the screenplay. The film’s cast includes Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns, and Fala Chen.
Wingard did not want to separate Godzilla and Kong after seeing audiences’ positive reception to the 2021 film, which grossed over $470 million at the box office during the pandemic. “As soon as the [last] movie came out and the audiences started to see it, I was like, ‘You just can’t separate these two guys again,’” Wingard told USA Today. “It’s too exciting having them in one movie. And now, the next one has to be about the continuation of that relationship, which is going to be the team-up.”
The MonsterVerse film currently holds the record as the highest-grossing movie in the Godzilla franchise, earning more than $547 million at the worldwide box office, including $188 million domestically, according to Box Office Mojo. On its sixth weekend in theaters, Godzilla X Kong surpassed 2014’s Godzilla at the box office.

You can watch Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire at home starting on May 14, when the movie arrives on digital streaming sites like Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, YouTube, Fandango at Home, and more.
The New Empire will be available to purchase for $24.99 or rent for $19.99. The film will debut on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD from online and physical retailers starting June 11, 2024.
Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire is also slated to stream on Max, although the specific release date has yet to be announced. Generally, studios wait 60 to 90 days after the theatrical premiere to release films on their streaming platforms. Stay tuned for updates.
