Just one month after its theatrical release, the movie has arrived on digital platforms like Amazon Prime and Apple TV+. In Death of a Unicorn, Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega portray Elliot Kintner and his teenage daughter, Ridley. Their weekend trip to visit Elliot’s billionaire boss, Odell Leopold, takes a dark turn when they accidentally run over a unicorn. Odell takes advantage of the creature’s mystical healing properties, leading to unforeseen and deadly consequences.
“A father and daughter accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat, where his billionaire boss seeks to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties,” the official synopsis reads. The film also stars Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, and Richard E. Grant, while Alex Scharfman directs.
Death of a Unicorn underperformed at the box office, earning just $15 million worldwide against a reported $15 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 54% approval rating from critics based on 201 reviews, while audiences have been more positive, giving it a 79% score based on 1,000+ ratings.

How To Watch Death Of A Unicorn At Home
Death of a Unicorn is currently available to stream on video-on-demand platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, and Fandango At Home. You can purchase Death of a Unicorn for $24.99 or rent the film for $19.99. For rentals, you have 30 days to start watching the video and 48 hours to finish once started.
When Will Death Of A Unicorn Be Streaming On Max?
Death of a Unicorn will eventually be available to stream Max, but the release date has not yet been announced. In 2023, the film’s production company, A24, signed a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery in December to bring its theatrical films to the streaming site.
The horror film is expected to hit Max between June and August 2025, roughly three to five months after its theatrical release. However, an exact date for Death of a Unicorn is hard to predict, as A24’s Max release timelines have varied over the past year.
For example, the awards-season hit The Brutalist is set to arrive on Max on May 16, 2025, nearly five months after its theatrical debut. A24’s Civil War began streaming on Max on September 14, about five months after its April 2024 release. Priscilla landed on Max roughly four months after its theater run, while MaXXXine had a quicker turnaround, hitting the platform just three months later.
