Cardi B has joined the lineup of entertainers featured in NBCUniversal’s advertising campaign for the 2024 Summer Olympics.

During NBC’s Kentucky Derby broadcast on Saturday (May 4), a new commercial aired for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games. The ninety-second ad showcases a glimpse of Grammy Award-winning rapper Cardi B and track and field Olympic hopeful Sha’Carri Richardson as they enjoy a relaxed conversation about the challenges of their professional pursuits and pampering session at a nail salon.

“I want to know a little bit about the training. How many times a week do you train? How many hours?” Cardi B asked, showing off her touched-up nails. “I literally train five days out of the week,” Richardson answered, enjoying her manicure. “A nine to five in corporate, is my nine to five on the track.”

A two-minute and eight-second video, showcasing a broader part of the conversation, is now available on YouTube. The snippet concludes by marking the start of the 2024 Summer Olympics, which will commence in Paris on July 26. Comcast
Comcast
and NBCUniversal, who will broadcast the event in the United States from 2021 to 2032, secured these rights in a deal valued at $7.75 billion, according to Variety.

With the Paris Olympics quickly approaching, we are continuing our push to create combustible moments that will break through the clutter and resonate across multiple audiences,” expressed Jenny Storms, the CMO of Entertainment and Sports for NBCUniversal, in a press statement. “Pairing Sha’Carri with Cardi was a natural fit. They are titans in their respective fields, mutual fans of each other, and share many common interests. Audiences across sports, music, and pop culture will gravitate to their genuine affection and respect.”

Sha’Carri Richardson, who earned the title “World’s Fastest Woman” following her gold medal victory in the 100m at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, is preparing to compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials this June. If qualified, she is expected to compete for gold in a number of track and field events at the upcoming Paris Olympics.

Cardi B made her first lyrical appearance of the year in March with the release of “Like What (Freestyle),” a track accompanied by a glitzy music video directed by Offset. The song, which samples Missy Elliot’s classic “She’s a Bitch,” is a recital of Cardi B’s freestyle prowess with bold, braggadocious lyrics.

As part of their programming for the 2024 Summer Olympics, NBCU will release several clips from the conversation between the “Like What” rapper and the Olympic hopeful in the months ahead. The clips will also be promoted on the social media profiles of the two superstars.

Cardi B joins an illustrious group of celebrities—including Megan Thee Stallion, Dolly Parton, Paris Hilton, Peyton Manning, Roman Reigns, and the Minions—to appear in promotional ads for the Paris Olympics. The campaign promises more artist-athlete pairings in conversation, building excitement as the games draw near.
